What does "dB" mean here?

Decibels (dB) are how audio level is measured. +6 dB is roughly twice as loud in perceived terms; +3 dB doubles the power. Small numbers make a real difference — a boost of +3 to +6 dB is often plenty for a quiet recording.

What is clipping, and why the limiter?

If you push the level past the maximum a digital file can hold, the tops of the loudest peaks get chopped off ("clipped"), which sounds like harsh crackle or distortion. The built-in limiter gently tames those peaks so you can get louder without that distortion. Leave it on unless you have a specific reason not to.

What does the "Auto" button do?

It finds the loudest peak already in your file and sets the boost to the maximum amount that won't clip — a clean, safe "normalize to full scale". It's the fastest way to make a quiet file as loud as it can go without distortion.

Can I make an already-loud file even louder?

Yes, but there's a ceiling before it distorts. With the limiter on you can push past that ceiling for extra loudness while keeping peaks under control; without it, large boosts on an already-loud file will clip.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?
